    From Y! Sports-

The Memphis Grizzlies offered O.J. Mayo(notes) as part of a package for Paul recently, but talks went nowhere. League sources believe the New Jersey Nets are willing to part with the No. 3 pick and every player on their roster except for center Brook Lopez(notes) to obtain Paul. Also, the Portland Trail Blazers – who’ve long targeted Paul – are expected make a bid for Paul prior to the draft, a source said.

I have heard internet rumblings that the Blazers could be making an "earth-shattering" trade as Jason Quick dubbed it on the radio today and CP# would fit the bill, but who would/could we offer to entice the Hornets to give up the best point guard in the NBA?

The expiring 2011 contracts of Przybilla and Miller will be enticing to a owner in financial need such as George Shinn. I'd throw Batum, Rudy, and a future pick AND take back bad contracts of either Posey or Okafor to get this done in a heartbeat.

If they won't budge, I''d reluctantly throw in Greg Oden as well. If the best point guard of the millennium is available, you go get him by any means necessary. Roy,Paul,Aldridge is the best Big 3 in basketball.

Wow, if this offer was truly turned down, I'm not sure what else any other team in the NBA can offer for him.
teamflightclub Nets supposedly offered #3 pick + any player not named Lopez for Chris Paul but it was rejected. Devin Harris + #3 pick has to be tempting

I will leave out the "I told you so's" for now, in exchange for a little street cred from two of my most respected bloggers...ClydeFrog and ofcourse, DHawes22...LOL.  Is it completely out the question to then bring Blake back as his backup?  Should be affordable, is strategically sound and what a great PR move.  The Lakers are in need of some depth at the PG position too, something I have also mentioned in the past.  Trying to outbid Tinsel Town isn't going to be easy...just one MORE reason to hate on the Lakers!!!  I just hope that Nic is not part of any deal.  In my opinion (and I likely stand alone here), Batum is the most untouchable player on the roster, in large part due to the overuse of Brandon in seasons past and his ailing knees and uncertain longevity.  Question for DHawes22...when might be the earliest the team can pull off a big deal...July 1st?  What is the LIKELY time?  Inquiring minds wanna know!  Keep up the intelligent and informative blogs!!!

Whats is "it" that has to work bertram - it's cp3! If he can get healthy he's a major piece. The only people safe in this exchange is roy, oden, and aldridge anyone else can be dealt.

    Not crazy at all.

Hey I love CP3s game too. Arguably the best PG in the game right now when healthy. The "it" is can he co-exist with Brandon Roy as his backcourt running mate? In the NBA, he's never had to play along side a SG who can control the ball also...however, I did see this year that CP3 and Darren Collison were doing a little combo guarding (yes I just made up that verb). If we can pull it off, then shoot I say we have a CP3 welcoming party.

No you’re not crazy. LA is soft and goes even softer come play off time. I’m really disappointed in his play for his size. With his size, he should be hammering down allot of dunks snagging rebounds and blocking shots. Not fading away throwing up front rim bricks as he often settles for. He's not aggressive and passive players like him pose no threat when trying to win a title. I would put these guys on the table and cash if had to:

Both picks in this years draft with a few players of choice, Mills, Miller, Rudy, Webster and LA in exchange for Okafor and Paul. I think Pryz is loyal to Portland and the Blazers should be in return. He does all the dirty work and has been very consistent and effective through-out his career. A great passer/penetrator will save the bodies of our bigs in the long run.

The bigger question is how will Roy work with Paul if this is something that becomes reality? He stated he was uncomfortable working with Andre Miller. I personally think Andre and Howard carried a heavy load last year and they were my fan favorite guys of last years team along with Jeff Pendergragh and Dante Cunningham. These guys hustled their tails off all season no matter what the situation was. Once again talk is cheap and hopeful. We'll all just have to sit back and wait.

First off, CP3 and Roy can co-exist. See the two All-Star games where they looked like hte best players on the floor playing off one another.

Also, from checking out  RealGM and reading Dwight Jaynes' Blog, it appears the offer was Miller, Przybilla, Aldridge, and Batum for Okafor and Paul. It seems the deal is dead now, which is what happens when the media gets a hold of a trade rumor. Now, does it get revitalized? Who knows. I bet GM's got wind of the Hornets listening to offers for Paul and are throwing the kitchen sink at them and they probably have to take a step back, calm down, and evaluating their options. Maybe this is why we are targeting a Top 10 pick to entice the Hornets with our package for Paul?

I can say this though. NO won't get a better offer than the one above. They get financial leeway with the expiring contracts of Miller and Przybilla in 2011 and Batum and Aldridge would slide right into the starting lineup. Also, Monty loves Batum.

But, I doubt anything gets done. CP3 is the Hornets and if they deal him, they might as well deal the franchise as well, because the city just won't show up without him. I'd look to trade Collison before I deal CP3 if I were the Hornets.

Quick has made a living on projecting that  "earth shattering "  line prior to the draft how many times now ? And the more I hear KP has to "save his job" , the more I believe he has nothing to worry about.
If you were planning something of that magnitude, would you tell Quick so he could tell everyone who will listen ??
I personally don't believe anything smoke spreaders say this time of year. I will believe it when I see it.
KP will play his hand until the last minute, and Batum is not going anywhere. Once again, we will have to wait for the smoke to clear to know what we really ended up with.
Bertram, I admire that you stick to your plan of developing Bayless enough to pass on CP3 ;)
I still think the best move (other than Roy and Aldridge) KP has ever made is yet to come.
Get Blake back, and basically we got Camby for Travis !

Miller, Aldrige, Przybilla AND Batum, for Okafur and Paul? I guess it's pretty fair, but what we lose is perimeter defense and defense on the fast break. Both are huge in the Western Conference. I would be satisfied going after a Tony Parker or Devin Harris instead in order to keep LA and Batum, more specifically Batum. I think if you can get an Okafur in return for LA and have him play the 4 instead of the 5 I think you can do OK (still not a match though), but where you hurt is giving up Batum as well. His length causes a lot of havoc on the perimeter. Not to mention he is improving his offense drastically. I think that is too rich of a deal for New Orleans.

I'm good on al the above package deal, but Nic would need to be pulled from the equation. He is one I would not deal due to his instinct and constant improvement with each game. I really like Nic and his game ALLOT!!!!!

    Update on CP3-

He says he is open to the idea of being traded.

    LINK-

"My first choice is to be in New Orleans,'' Paul said in a telephone interview from London. "I just want to make sure we're committed to winning. If we're not committed to winning and trying to get better so we can contend with the Lakers, the Celtics and all these other top teams, then I'm open to being traded.'' CONTINUE READING>>>
That's good news to hear for all the CP3 to PDX people. Also, no one WANTS to give up Batum, but to get talent, you have to give it up.

Blazers pursue of CP3 is nothing new:
    LINK-

When the possibility of the Portland Trail Blazers making a bid on Paul was brought to him, a source said, Paul’s reaction was simple: Why would I want to go there if they have to trade LaMarcus Aldridge or Brandon Roy to get me? I’d want to play with those players.

Portland has bordered on tampering with Paul for two years now, and it’s never been much of a secret within the Hornets’ organization that the Blazers have gone to great lengths to make Paul aware of how badly they want him. It didn’t go unnoticed when Blazers president Larry Miller – a former Nike executive who had dealings with Paul – cozied up to the Hornets star on New Orleans’ trips to the Rose Garden. It is what it is, but most agree the Blazers have been merciless in trying to get into Paul’s ear – and those around him – to convince him to create a stir and force his way out.

I agree with this trade. Just don't include Batum and Okafor on both sides of the equation. Batum is on the rise, Okafor has an expensive contract.

BLAZERS: Przybilla, Miller, Fernandez, 2010 second round pick, cash, etc.
    FOR
    HORNETS: Paul, Posey

P.S: The blazers also HAVE to acquire Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake from the FA.

Blazers have to chase for LEBRON!
I am a fan of the Portland Trail Blazers. Period.

That's simply not enough for Paul (one of the Big 3 AND Batum would be needed to get it done and that may not be enough). One of the main reasons they are willing to listen to offers for CP3 is to rid themselves of Okafor's contract. Their franchise is losing money and is in cost-cutting mode, meaning any trade involving Paul requires Emeka to come along with him.

Hold on... that article was written on June 21. Jason Quick's "Earth-Shattering" deal probably doesn't involve CP3 at all.
