He couldn't have done much worse, at least as far as the organization is concerned.  While I applaud his honesty and sincerity, going public with his true feelings really limits Cho's choices now and more or less guarantees a distraction for the forseeable future.  Here's hoping that this "distraction" doesn't linger and become a cancer

I like that he was honest about it, I hope something works out for both sides soon. Cho repeatedly said he will do what's in the best interest of the team, well now it seems the sooner he is off the team so he doesn't cause major distractions the better, even if we do not get what the organization thinks is fair market value for him. Sometimes you just gotta count your losses and move on. Hopefully he is gone by preseason.

I think it's stupid to eliminate the option to waive Rudy if you're Rich Cho. You already tried to get a decent return for him in a trade situation. That failed. Rudy does NOT want to be here. You're lucky his honesty lead him to saying he misses and prefers Spain.
I don't have any ill wishes on Rudy, just for him to be happy. The situation is one where either Rudy stays here playing a third string SG with no minutes, let alone value, or you waive him and get the whole deal over with, plus he's happy.

Cho, explain why you don't want to waive him and make him happy, translating into all of us being happy. I get you want a good trade scenario, but you already tried that. Rudy does not want to be in the NBA, making him even LESS attractive to other teams. If you have his best interests in mind here, waive him and get the mess and drama over with. By not doing so, you make it more complicated which it doesn't have to be at all.

Ignoring Rudy for a sec. What about what Brandon Roy said about it. He said it was his and his teamates job to make him feel welcome and not like he is out on some island alone.  It just shows what kind of character Roy has. He could have easily sad Rudy needs to suck it up and play, but Roy seems to have taken it upon himself to help Rudy help the team... I think that is pretty classy of Roy, which is why I think he is such a great player and leader for our team.

I wonder if Rudy has had a close friend on the team since Sergio left? I mean, when Surge came here, in the 2 years before Rudy he and Aldridge were really close..so I don't think anyone on the team is alienating Rudy but like Roy said, maybe they are trying to go the extra step to make him feel welcomed.

How many people get to have their  friends at work ?  Like Rudy said himself, he is under contract.
Rudy has alienated himself, imo. I feel for the guy, but it is a business, and he has not done himself any favors all summer.

I think the Blazers will keep him, and he'll put in some quality minutes when called upon.  I'd bet they'll me shorter minutes, though.

And, as some people touched upon up above, I think if Rich Cho could find a way to make a deal with a team that has a Gasol, or Toronto with Calderon, or to a team that I'm forgetting has a Spanish player, he'd be a worthwhile asset to that squad... Trouble will be convincing the other GM of that.

No one wants to talk about it, because he's a fan favorite.
If nobody liked the kid, we'd all be throwing muck at Rudy.
But since we love Rudy, it's hard to accept that he don't wanna be a Blazer no mo.
So folks are hurt, and should speaak their mind. Instead, we keep letting Rudy speak his mind.

Curious, isn't it?  Rudy could have won an Oscar for his performance yesterday.  He made his heartfelt plea to Blazer fans and the community and spoke of honoring his contract.  Please.  Nothing could have been more scripted by an agent.  All this while crippling his boss and co-workers.  GuitarJ111, you make a good point.  If I may, I'd like to add to it some.  I would like to know how the NBA of today is any different than that of the NBA the day he signed his contract.  That is the burning question I would personally like to have answered.  The NBA hasn't changed.  Rudy has.

Dwight Jaynes offered an interesting take on Rudy this morning on the MSP.  He suggested that the team suspend Rudy, without pay, if at all possible should he (and his agent) decide not be an ACTIVE member of this team.  Rudy is a player who plays with emotion, feeds off of it even.  An energy guy with a very blessed skill set.  If he does not practice...if he does not play, with this ENERGY and this EMOTION?  Absolutely!  Suspend him without pay if the law allows.  Cho does possess a degree in Law, which I am confident is being put to good use right now.

I have a car I bought awhile ago.  I liked it then, but now...not so much.  Hmmm.  I wonder.  If I call my bank tomorrow and ask them to just forget about the 5 year contract I signed...I wonder what type of reaction I should expect...

BTW Dwight, congratulations on your induction!

BDawg ~ I totally agree with you. I just dont get how anything is different now for him other than him requesting a trade and then not getting what he wants... So now, the NBA sucks?  Ummm ok. If he doesnt perform well or plays crappy on purpose then I think he should be suspended.  I assume he doesnt like the NBA because he isnt a star here.  Apparently Rudy doesnt play second fiddle to anybody. Sighhhhhhhh.

The only reason he wanted a trade is because he wanted to be traded to a team that would buy him out if we arnt willing to, which a lot of teams have bought players out for more than he would be bought for but still not the best way to go about this.

Rudy actually has been saying he wants out of the NBA now for about a month. He quickly changed his mind after saying he wanted to be traded because he didn't get traded right away or basically I think he doesn't like the politics of the NBA. I don't think he is saying the NBA sucks, just the politics. And if you ask me I totally agree with him. It's pretty obvious the NBA promotes star treatment, and I think Rudy wants it to be more fair to everyone, on top of playing in a style more suited to his play. I mean look at some things that has happened to him. Trevor Ariza made a ruthless play on him that had no repercussions whatsoever on Ariza, but Rudy may be still recovering from it (at least mentally), he clearly had a different set of rules applied to him at the dunk contest, he doesn't get to play his style at all, and now we are not willing to trade him for some reason. Obviously he made some mistakes handling the situation, but I think his biggest mistake is he is too honest and then speaks about it. I think he loves the Portland fans, but I think he really isn't a complete NBA player and to admit that takes a lot of humility, but everyone takes it as he wants his mommy and to go home.

Also I used to read Dwight Jaynes when he was in the Oregonian and I couldn't stand him them, so I haven't followed him since. He still shows that he is king of the obvious stating we should suspend Rudy if he doesn't show up or practice or whatever trying to spin it as an original idea or an epiphany. Obviously the Blazers would do that if he did anything like that. I still have no idea why he was inducted.

I ended with selling Rudy to a team in Spain and using the money to buy a mid level first round draft pick in next years draft.  I think this may be possible.  What do you think?

all this talk of honesty and rudy is silly, he wants to get dropped so he can sign with a different team, while we pick up the bill because he is on a contract (if he signs to another team they don't have to pay the part we are obligated to pay). We need to send a message to european players that they can't hardball small market teams into getting what they want, Cho is going to quell the european invasion.
