Brandon has obviously lost his explosiveness and quickness due to the lack of meniscus in his knees. I was just thinking the other night how much leaner and quicker he was as rookie. These days he seems to have bulked up and overall is much bigger. To get to the point, I think that Brandon should lose some of that muscle and become leaner for two reasons. For one, it will probably make him quicker not having to carry around those extra pounds. Secondly, its probably less of a load that his knees have to support, which is probably better for his health. Just some thoughts, what do you think about this?

Seems like a little bulk can help out on D, or boxing out other players, but that isn't his role, his role is attacking the basket and scoring, so yes I agree that he could lose some of those extra pounds, especially with the knee problem.

i think the last few games, roy has looked like his old self. hes being more explosive, driving into the lane. he just needs to continue to tweak his game play to adjust to his knees and he will be just fine. i dont think roy is anywhere close to being  done. he is still an allstar worthy player, and our teams leader hands down.

I think he'll get better.  He's got to be use to playing with this new burden.  He won't go back to 100%, but even a 90% Roy can help us bring a championship.  Made me want to cry hearing TNT mention how we might be in rebuilding stages.  FFS... I don't think we need to rebuild.

At the risk of being a broken record, I still don't understand why  Nate isnt using WM as that spark off the bench, and just giving him more playing time, and Roy less. WM is getting his #'s from more time, not necessarily from starting, imo. No shame in 6th man of the year. Nic has always covered Roys lack of D.
There are times Roy just looks like he has no explosiveness, going after loose balls and on defense.
Is that to easy of an answer ??

Herr, the nation media feeds off our local media.  It's not rocket science to figure out that Dre and Marcus are not going to play forever. Cho doesnt have to push the panic button yet. It's not rebuilding, its replenishing the stock, and it's going to have to happen. The media has to make it dramatic.....

I think as Brandon adjusts his game to the limitations is knees are giving him he will continue to be a bid part of our team and plan. It is rough watching him play sometimes remembering games of past years. He definitely seems to be struggling emotionally with the change- he doesn't seem to be enjoying the game as much. Hopefully things will continue to improve!!

It was sad to see Roy not moving as quickly as he has in the past.  He does have "explosiveness" it is just not consistent.  The flow of the offense was VERY fluid without im in it...did you notice that?  When he came back in it was jerky at best.  Yes he is still an "All star" in our hearts if not on the court.  The team is really pulling for eachother...there is a sense of true caring going on.  IT IS VERY SPECIAL.  Hope no one gets traded.

It's sad, but It looks like his good days are behind him. Sure he will have a good night here or there, but the face of the team and the go to guy days are gone. We need to face the facts, we have no consistent scorer on this team. we have no franchise players. we have no consistent player who we can trust at the end of the game. Roy was all these things but now he looks really old and slow. I don't think if he lost weight it would matter. Bone on bone sounds like it sucks no matter how much you weigh.

It's starting to look that way, but I'm still not ready to throw in the towel for him just yet. People were ready to do that with D-Wade in '06 and he came back with a roaring thunder reclaiming the nickname Flash. Maybe Roy can do this..if not then sure.

I'm nowhere near throwing in the towel. But if you can't get back on D to help your team, youre hurting them.
Can we make a decision on how much he can play and stick to it ?

This team looks lost, maybe from conflicting info every other week ??

My towel has already left my hands.  I hope that Cho is a realist and has foresight.  Sometimes being realistic isn't popular, and I readily accept that.  One needs to look no further than my posts during the summer questioning Batum's value and ceiling.  At that time, those were blasphemous thoughts and BEYOND unpopular.  Now, they appear to be, among many other things...valid.  Sorry ladies, but this is not a male revue.  It's professional basketball.

With regard to this thread and my favorite player, and for the fifth or sixth time here...BRoy is nothing more than a complimentary piece now...a shooter.  Gone are the days of the "cornerstone".  Unfortunately financially speaking, Roy will be collecting a max check thru 2015, while only providing an occassional jumpshot.  This is the concern.  Alot of the teams money is tied up in a player that is untradeable and a Blazer for another 5 years.  Not a good outlook.  Many, including myself, spoke during the summer of the need to get Brandon some help and he being over used and abused in Nate's system.  That was let go too long and now there is a price being paid.

@j.nguyen503...Brandon worked very hard this last summer making the changes you're speaking of.  He has ALREADY slimmed down in an effort to alleviate the pressure on his knees and become quicker.  What we are all seeing now, is the best Roy will look physically, for the rest of his career.  I DO believe he can improve with regard to his effectiveness while on the floor.  That will come with time.

We really don't have a choice but to build around Roy because of his knees and his contract. We are married to him for the next 5 years whether people like it or not. The team needs to be built around his strengths and weaknesses.

This team, and more importantly, Nate's offense, has long been far too dependent upon Roy and his abilities in isolation.  THAT Roy is now gone.  Hence, the fourth quarter collapses.  The Blazers have now lost as many as they have won when leading going into the final stanza.  Remember this team BEFORE Roy's announcements regarding his knee(s).  Night and day.  Our team that came out of the gates this season on fire was seemingly WAITING until the fourth to play it's best ball, closing opponents out with uncanny regularity.  Since Roy has gone public however, look at the record and fourth quarter play.  This is not rocket science and I am not up for a Nobel Peace Prize.  Losing to a Memphis team tonight for the first time in 5 years, scoring a mere 9 points in the fourth?  Wake up Portland.

Rebuilding of any kind will be difficult with literally half of your cap money spent on two untradeable non-performers.  Tough road ahead.  Buckle up.

It's funny how people are making such a big deal about Roy's knee. His left one is the one that is bothering him. That knee was worked on 2 years ago before the '08-'09 season started. That season was his best season and we won 54 games. He averaged nearly the same the following year before getting surgery on his RIGHT knee.

    Good players get their numbers.
Great players make their teammates better.
Jordan and Magic did it, through injuries. Kobe has learned to do it.
I still believe Brandon will be one of the Blazer greats in history, but he and Nate need to get on the same page as to how much he can realistically play. It is throwing off the team chemistry.
How much of this is Brandons ego, with WM lighting it up ?  And how much is Nate being stubborn with adjusting ?
I don't have the answer, but this is not the team we saw at the beginning of the season, any way you slice it !

I'll be the first to tell you that he doesn't look the same. What I'm trying to say is that he's shown he can play. The whole team looks as Charles Barkley would say "turrible." There isn't any sort of rhythm to our team, and if there is it's very inconsistent. You can blame Roy's knees but make sure you include the other player personnel and coaching.
