What in the world do we have to do in order to win 3 straight games? First game, and we got murdered my Houston, Game 2, we won by a few points, and here we are: Game 3 and 4.
In those two games, we have fought our hardest to win, but we lost by a few points. Comparing Game 3 to 4, we played better than Game 1.
So what is it? What do the Blazers have to do in order to win? They were only down by a few points, made a tie, then lost the lead in the end.
My opinion is, first of all, Greg Oden. I can't tell whether it is really his fault, or if the refs were just hating on him. But either way, Greg Oden needs to stop the fouls. And if you can do that, he could help in inside both offensively and defensively. But I think he could work more on both.
Second, if the Blazers can somehow stop Houston from shooting the three pointers, that would help us a lot. I understand that Battier and Brooks are great 3point shooters, but at least somehow keep close to them to make their shots harder.

    What's your opinion, fellas?

if we get a solid win tomorrow night we can get some momentum. we need to make a statement in game 5. we cant come from behind and squeeze out a win. we need to be ahead the whole game and win comfortably. and that puts all the pressure on houston. they will feel like game 6 is a must win, cause they wont want to play a game 7 here. with all the pressure on houston in game 6 we can win in their place. they havent had much pressure at all this series. and there is no way we lose a game 7 at home. so that being said a no-doubter win in game 5. get some momentum and put the pressure on houston to have to win game 6. we can steal that and seal it at home in game 7. rip city!

We have to play it smart and play it aggressive. Not just take it straight to Yao Ming, but attack him at different angles. We have to move the ball and attack the rim, that way Yao Ming moves also...and when Yao Ming moves, he will foul. He'll get to the shot in time sometimes, but just keep going. This will also create open looks from the outside because Rick Adelman will adjust and try to swarm, thus creating open look opportunities.

Travis Outlaw needs to step-up. He cannot play so complacent. He has got to show up for 4 quarters. Once that happens Roy and Aldridge will have more room to work.

Rudy Fernandez needs to continue to bring the energy and hit the shots he's given.

Greg Oden, needs to continue to play good defense on Yao and stay out of foul trouble. This also means our perimeter defenders have to contain the penetration.

I agree, let the rookies play more. Lets see, we have Rudy shooting at about 4 for 30, batum is scoring .8 points per game, Bayless has been outstanding warming a chair and we know we can count on Oden for 5 good fouls in 5 bad minutes. Nothing would make Blazer fans happier than to be blown out by 58 points, but at least we would get our rooks in the game.

Dude, lol, I understand if you wanna say that the Blazers will not get the series. But to be an ars (yes that was intentional) like that is just uncalled for. You are trying to ruffle feathers. What is it with you and Mclelland? Guys, these message boards are for fun and for discussion. Blanket statements like that without any form of substance, you only post those for one reason, to piss people off. I got suckered in on the first couple, but this time I have to just shake my head in disappointment that you guys have no better forms of entertainment. You disappoint me blazer09, people like you should be stripped of your fingers and tongues to keep you from spitting or posting your substance impaired toxic rubbish. If you aren't going to give reasons or any sign of logic in your post, then just don't worry about posting it. If you wanna present an argument, fine, do it. I'm not saying your opinion couldn't hold water, but to just put it out as a statement of fact without any reasoning, shows your intent is just to piss people off and that isn't appropriate here. Grow up dude, really.

Well I for one think that Nate has been way too centered on defense in this series. We have players who can crash the boards and put up shots, let them do it. And Oden for Heaven's sake, take a few jumpers, I know you can do it.

In this series, the winner is whoever wins the points in the paint and whoever gets to the foul line the most. So slam the boards, draw the fouls, open up the outside shot in the second half. Start with your offensive players first, put the game out of reach then put in our defensive players (Batum, Rodrigeuz).

I know we can do it. So does the rest of the nation. We are not the heavy favorites for nothing.

First off, fellas ? OK...... Second since when is Nate too defensive minded and Sergio is one of our defensive players? 2 thumbs down.

The entire team needs to step it up and play all 48 minutes again. It isn't over until it's over. Even if they are playing 5 against 8 on the court.

    Lets Go Blazers !!!

Nate IS too defensive. You can disagree all you want, but thats whats what.
All year long his defensive mindset has won us games no doubt. But this is the playoffs and strategies need to change.

And Sergio is a defensive player. That is his only quality, and the reason he isnt shooting the ball. Watch game tape and Sergio is 100% focused on his opposing player. Not saying that he is good at it mind you. He certainly isnt as good as Batum, but it's why we still have him, we havnt found someone better to back up Blake.

First of all, we aren't "Heavy favorites" by any means. Every ESPN, FOXSports, NBA.com, article I have ever seen said this was gonna be a tough match up. We were never, EVER, the "heavy" favorites. Second, we still have Sergio for three reasons. 1. his court vision and ability to make the unconventional pass. 2. his ability to get to the hole, and 3. RUDY! Rudy wouldn't have come and played for Portland if Sergio wasn't going to be here, he said it himself before he came over. So campbell you have just proven you don't follow the team closely you only watch the games. As for Nate being defensively minded, true, but it is more about effort than JUST defense. He wants to maximise effort at both ends of the floor because that is the kind of player he was. You play hard on defense and it opens opportunities on offense. You play hard on offense and you win games. The more opportunities you have for offense, the more games you are going to win. Pretty easy logic. Not sure what all this has to do with the original theme of the board, but whatever.

Sergio can't get to the hole. He has done it... what 13 times this season. So you can throw that garbage out now. And Rudy will stay even if Sergio goes, so you can throw that garbage our too.

And we were the Heavy Favorites going into this game. 7 out of 10 NBA experts picked Portland in 6. So get off your high horse pal.

Offense starts with defense. You cant win taking the ball out of the net all game. As far as Chacho, I agree he is still here for 2 reasons, Rudy and his court vision. But his defense, next subject PLEASE ......

Wow you people are blind. I am not saying he is here for his defense. I am saying one of the few reasons we can use him at all is his defense. As far as I am concerned he can gtfo. He wont get any better then he is now. Unlike the rest of the blazer core.

And I am not saying stop playing defense. I am saying concern yourself with scoring rather then prevent scoring. One thing this team is known for is there abbility to defend. But thats obviously not working in this series.

See here's the thing campbel, if NOBODY else sees things the same way you do, then you are probably wrong. And of those "7 out of 10" (where ever you came up with that) how many said it could swing either way? I'm betting all. Although they picked Portland, to come out of it, how many said it would be easy? Guess what, my bet is that 7/10 experts would take whoever has homecourt advantage in the Playoffs. Nobody anticipated Portland losing game 1, and they all expected Portland to whin one in Houston. Guess what, if all that HAD happened, Portland would most likely win in 5, let alone 6. Second, you are completely contradicting yourself. If you say that the only reason someone is here is because of their defense, that automatically implies that they are above average at it. Third, Sergio is better at dribble penetration than Blake by far and has more experience than Bayless. Yes, they kept him because he is one of the best ball handlers on the team and can get through traffic while keeping control and getting into the paint. He hasn't finished there a whole lot, no, but he gets there and collapses defenses. Finally, you must be DEAF and/or illiterate if you never heard/read that Rudy wasn't coming if Sergio got traded last offseason. It was all over the place, it was part of the courting process to get him over hear. I didn't say anything about it being a factor for next year, I am just saying that was part of getting him here, it was in the papers, KP said it, Nate said it, WAKE UP DUDE! When there is evidence backing up that you make no sense, accept it and move on and stop defending nothing. Don't come at me with that weaksauce, BLOCKED! BLOCKED! BLOCKED!

I should appologize. I get a little worked up when someone comes at me like that. Bottom line, you have to back up your stats, your claims, you have to watch and listen, and you have to use logic. Essentially what you said was that Sergio is playing because he is just another body on the floor when Blake is sitting. If that was the case, they could have just played Bayless. Everything I said in the last post is true, I just felt I should appologize for getting a little too emotional on the last post.

attakid, I don't know if you are reading this or not, but anyone is welcome to answer.

You mentioned that Blazers had to win this game strong in order to have good confidence built up, and with that confidence, we could possibly win the next 2 games.
Today, Blazers have won, and the played well. However, You mentioned that the Blazers shouldn't "squeeze out a win" To me, it seemed kinda of a squeeze, and kinda not.
Blazers in quarters 1-3, they were struggling, and squeezing their way to victory. However, in Q4, the game was in our favor. Game 2, we barely won.

Would you consider this a strong win, or just another GOOD win out of a squeeze?

    P.S.
-I told my friends that the Blazers would win by 13.... SOOOO frikin close. Why couldn't that guy(Landry?) just miss his shot?
    Blazers won by 11.

Given all the previous games against this Houston team, I would say this is not a squeeze. What also happened today is you saw Houston showing their fatigue. Portland is the younger more energetic team and with Houston getting tired, Portland has a chance in this series. This is where that predatory instinct needs to take effect. Smell the blood in the water Blazers. The Rockets are walking wounded and the Blazers need to be the lions waiting in the brush. This is Portland's biggest shot. I actually want Houston to jump out hard at the beginning of the next game, because after tonight, I don't see them being able to sustain it. It would be like the last grasp of a desperate soul. Portland just needs to keep it close in the beginning, then they can finish Houston down the stretch and brig the series back to Portland.

Just for a little clarification, I said Rudy would stay if Sergio goes he is part of this team now, not that Rudy wouldn't join if Sergio wasn't here. Read more carefully. (And read your words too, you attacked me, I attacked back.)

Anyways, Nate did exactly what I said he shoulda been doing, and it won them the game. And if he starts Rudy over Batum again in Houston it will open up more Offensive options early and Late.

    Game 6 ::
    Houston - 73
    Portland - 96

No, he really didn't do exaclty what you said. Outlaw had an OK game tonight, Rudy was a stud as usual, and Blake was tied for team leader in rebounds. I think the biggest thing was Blazer guards crashing the boards. On top of that, they took the ball at Yao. If you didn't read the box score the Blazers had 10 steals, 8 blocks and 30 defensive rebounds. Doesn't sound like they took the focus off of defense. Yes, they scored, but it had almost NOTHING to do with what you said. I would actually say, the two things that made the most difference were the players crashing the boards, their desire, and the refs atleast called the game equally poorly. Thank you Nate for finally standing up for your players against the NBA. "$25,000 well spent," as Rice said. I totally agree.

How's it feel to be wrong? LOL Game 5 WAS a squeeze. And yeah, Houston really looked tired last night! Yao winning battles for the ball on the floor, Artest flying out of bounds saving balls, Brooks, Lowry and Wafer cutting through the portland "defense" like a hot knife through butter. Portland not scoring 20 points in any quarter last night. Yeah, that Houson fatigue was really setting in. LOL
