Preview: Trail Blazers Avoid Season Sweep Against Lakers
One thing that can help the Trail Blazers is their shooting. Wallace, who’s averaging 18.6 points on 55 percent shooting in his last 10 games, has recorded double-digit points in his previous nine contests.
Trail Blazers v. Lakers: Round 4. Let's get it on! Coming off of a commanding win in Utah Thursday night, the Trail Blazers must play their arch rivals, the Lakers, in the Rose Garden tomorrow on the second night of  back-to-back. Although the Blazers are 0-3 this year against the Lakers, outside of the first contest in November, Portland controlled the game late into the 4th before giving way to Kobe and co. Back on February 23rd, Portland had the L.A. down 7 with under 2 minutes to play but couldn't seal the deal, eventually losing 101-106 in OT. On March 20th, the Blazers held a 5 point lead throughout the 2nd half until Marcus Camby had to leave the game with an injury and then it all went downhill from there and L.A. took another close one, 84-80. While the Lakers have won their past 2 games in the Rose City, the Trail Blazers took the previous 9, still giving them a decided advantage in the friendly confines of the RG.

A week ago, this game looks like it could be more than difficult. L.A. had just went 17-1 in their first 18 games out of the All-Star Break and were charging hard for the #1 seed. Now, it doesn't look so daunting as the Lake Show have dropped three straight, including back-to-back head scratchers against Utah and Golden State, taking them away from #1 seed contention. Will they rest starters or still try to prove a point as this is a realistic and likely First Round matchup? Portland should look to take the L-Train if they want a victory. He had 29 points through 3 quarters last time in the RG before the team forgot about him in the 4th. Continue to pound the ball down low, get to the foul line and force L.A. to double which leaves shooters open or let LA work one-on-one.

    BEAT LA!

Gerald should guard Kobe, no question.  Camby needs to play.  I think LA will rest their starters and possibly give the game to PDX.

    if this is a rivalry.

being that it's a rivalry LA should play the best game they can.

look at the bears vs packers week 17. bears had nothing to play for but played 100% in the game.

lakers should do the same. i'd rather that.. then let the lakers say. "you only beat us because we didn't care about the game and rested people"
play.. it's what you're paid to do.

I am a fan of defence.

I don't see the Lakers mailing this one in, nor do I see them dropping their last SEVEN games for the sake of rest.  After Portland, they have OKC and SA at home, then finish on the road with SAC.  No way they drop these three games against western conference playoff rivals.  I personally believe Jackson wants his team playing well going into post-season, with rest being a secondary priority.

Everyone needs to play well tonight regardless if LA decides to rest starters or not. Game might not matter to them but it does to the Blazers. Rudy really needs to step up of the bench. Needs to get some confidence built up and get back on a roll before the playoffs start. I wonder if he's slumpin a lil because hes not really on the floor with his buddy Patty?

people saying the Lakers are gonna rest their starters this game are wrong. people who say that they aren't because of this rivalry are wrong.

LAL will not rest this game. Why?

    1) LAL has dropped 3 in a row. They are not going to do a swan dive like the Mavs in the final stretch here. They are going to show they are two-time champs by sweeping another potential first-round playoff opponent (having already done so for the Hornets.

    2) LAL will not want to match their season high 4-game losing streak in the final two weeks of regular season. Doing so sends a message of weakness and allows your team to have a "loser's" mentality and your opponent's to have a positive mentality ("oh, the Lakers have gone cold recently. i know it's the playoffs, but that's somethign to hope for and exploit"). As George Karl said recently about the Mavs, having a winning mentality is ALWAYS preferable going into the playoffs than resting up. Kobe and co are not old enough to need long strecthes of rest. In fact, only Fisher and Kobe are the truly "old" and Kobe's competitiveness will make him play tough.

    3) LAL is still fighting for homecourt advantage against every other true contender but the Spurs. They know, we know, everyone knows how crucial homecourt advantage is. LAL is only a game up on the Celtics. They will NOT allow themselves to draw even with their archrivals if they can help it.

    4) LAL has a history of having trouble at the Garden. They will want to prove to both themselves and the world that that isn't so by sweeping the Blazers (the universally recognized "most dangerous opponent of the lower seeds") for the season.

That said, Blazers need to come out of the gates strong tonight and finish even stronger. Go Blazers!

watching blazer home games is super annoying because of how dramatic the fans are when a call doesnt go their way. its like they are all being stabbed in the lower spinal cord simultaneously
    it is nauseating.

hahha dre is running a muck and g-dub is workin em. ha.
it is too close to call right now, the blazers are up by ten but that hasnt stopped them from allowing the lakers to beat them by 1 before. hahaha
i am pullin for portland, but if , and it looks like it just may be, if kobe starts to get upset and starts playing his game, i gotta go for him, like a 1 vs 100, if he goes ham tonight, ill be behind him.

So you will root for Kobe and have LeBron in your avatar? Bandwagon much?

But seriously, Gerald hit the nail on the head in his post-game interview. We ran them out of the gym. We had 20 fast break points at the half and I don't think we racked up 20 in three games combined. I mean, when you push the tempo nine times out of 10, you'll get the layin or they will foul you and that's what we did. Also, how good was Dre tonight? That threading the needle pass to Crash on the break was amazing. And finally, Wesley Matthews! How great was he tonight on Kobe?! Kobe shot a porous 10-25 from the floor and every single look was extremely contested.

Good call, Tom. Haha. And don't worry Hawes, TayC has always been a Debby downer. One of those cheers for the Blazers when they're doing good and throws them into the garbage when they're not doing good kind of guy.

I loved seeing Bynum foul out, and finally I LOVED seeing a tech on Kobe for once in a looooong time. He gets away with so much crap. And seeing him only post 9 points in the 2nd half was awesome. We kept Kobe in check the 2nd half which was a huge factor in the game, but as always we get hurt down low (no camby hurts).  It ticked me off seeing all the cheap shots on wallace, but loved how he didnt take crap from anyone, i thought he was seriously gunna throw down on 3 different Laker's during the game. He brings the toughness we lack at times. It just shows that the Lake-show was furstrated all game long and all the cheap shots showed how dirty they can play at times. I'm just glad we played as a team, played hard, and made a statement (as Wallace said post game). He brings a toughness that needs to rub off on the WHOLE team. SOOOOO excited for the playoffs!

OK I just got done watching the game, I agree that we ran them out, but after Andre Miller kept throwing those perfect lobs to Lamarcus, I think that started to crush their spirits, especially the last one. Three Lakers just hung their head after that one and then they slowly walked off the court. Then the lob from Wallace to Lamarcus topped it off. I also liked Brandon Roy gettin Wallaces back and not trying to hold Wallace back, but gettin in Artests' face and backing him up like he's got to get through Brandon first.
Great game though if you're a blazer fan! I thought we were gonna be in trouble without Camby, I really felt like we lost the last game because Camby got hurt and we crumbled. But Aldridge and Wallace stepped up with rebounds and defense. Everyone stepped up. And seriously for a while there it felt like we were playing some high school team with all those alley oops. Andre Miller is a damn quarterback. That pass to Wallace was a thing of beauty!
