My favorite players to sign would be Lamar Odom and Ron Artest to start at small forward and provide a 'Big Three' of sorts with Roy and Aldridge. But I really don't think the blazers should invest in a free agent this offseason. The nucleus of this young team should not be shifted around and re-molded with new players coming and old players leaving. We need to keep the chemistry of this team in order to win championships. You don't win titles with a team full of ballhogs who barely know eachother! Not many players should leave, and few should be acquired. That is what building through the draft is all about and that is what winning NBA rings is all about.

Lamar Odom? Are you kidding me? Why didn't we just keep D-Miles then? Same guy different name. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to examine his career. He only steps up and plays during his contract years. Then he gets a longterm contract and disappears. I wouldn't mind signing Ron Ron because I think he actually did get his act together off the court. I could be wrong, but I think he's for real now. I wouldn't sign him for the starting SF though, it would be for the back up PF instead. With that said, I would rather go after a veteran PG that would fit this team and style. I think we have that back up 4 in Summer League. Not sure which one, but I think he's there.

The backup to LaMarcus will almost certainly be Jeff Pendergraph. He is strong, athletic, and happy with being a backup (Unlike a Mr. Channing Frye).

Kidd? Artest? Odom? QUE LOCO! Kidd=old and declining. Artest is only behaving because his contract is up. He gets signed he's back to rapping and fighting. Odom is a Laker... Have we EVER had a player come from LA? Nash would be a good PG, but he's expensive. The Blazers missed their chance to get Chauncy Billups who would have been the best fit (but he's locked in his home-town Denver). The odds of Portland picking up a Veteran PG is low. Turkoglu is the most likely off-season acquisition and I think it would be a good one. We missed some clutch shooting in the playoffs last season. Oh by the way... Martell Webster... last season was supposed to be his break out year so hopefully he has recovered and is ready to be a 3-point threat this season at SG and SF. Either way, KP knows what he's doing. >what we really need is a BIG MAN COACH for GRED ODEN. We need to turn that kid into a MAN

I don't think we should get Turkoglu, I'd rather have Marion. I don't like Artest or Odom for Portland either. Nash would be the best PG for us but we can only dream for that to happen.

We don't need some player thats been trouble at all in his carrer(Artest) and if we get odom will just have fights with him and Joel.We also don't need a Point guard. Steve Blake is a great Point guard and a very underated point guard. He plays well with the team and you got to give him some credit it's probably the hardest position in the league to play. Plus we went through this last year and we ended up with Blake starting and he helped us get to 54 wins.I say go after Turkoglu because hes not gonna want to come in and be a big star. He won't want to come in and be the leader because he hasn't had to be the leader playing with Howard and Lewis in orlando. So let just go after Turkoglu and get him and be done with free agents for this year. We also have to save some money because Roy and Aldridges contracts are up.

I too like Miller, cause we need a point guard that will drive to the hoop to colapse the D.  Blake was a little too hesitant to drive, maybe cause his shoulder or the fact that he hates to shoot free throws.  That is something I will miss with Sergio.

I think a driving PG would be good for this team.  It would help make the defense colapse.  Blake has been too hesitant to drive to the hoop, maybe cause of his shoulder or his fear of free throws.  I'll miss that with Sergio gone.

Solid article by Bucher, I agree with pretty much everything he was saying especially about the things that Kidd would bring to the table for any team that would try to acquire him. It's crazy because I'm feeling alot of the suggestions for FA signings that would be good for the team, like the Andre Miller for example or the Brandon Bass sounds real good......But like everyone else I just don't know

After he rejected Orlando's offer I hope we aren't pursuing Hedo. Boozer is staying so I would like to get Millsap. He's a nice player overall and price will be about 'right' when looking at our situation. He's not experienced but brings a lot of athletic talent to the team as well as professional hard work. But of course the highest priority should be the Kid signing and let him lead the team while developing Bayless the right way.

Shawn Marion likes to play up-tempo. We don't do that, so he's a no. Kidd is too old, would take minutes, and WILL start declining soon. He's a VERY risky bet. And he can't defend me. so that's a problem. Nash is not leaving Phoenix, plus it would take too much to get him for what he's worth at his (even older than Kidd, injury-wise). Plus he can't play D. Period. Never has, never will. Turkoglu I don't think would be happy here, because he role on the team would be significantly diminished from last season with Orlando. Too expensive for a disgruntled, no-D playing SF. I wouldn't spend that much money on him. Plus, Orlando can pay him more. Andre Miller honestly makes the most sense for this team. If we were to sign him out-right or in a sign and trade. He's 33, yes, but he's only played in 815 games and is a better shooter and passer than Blake or anyone else on this list (with the exception of Kidd). I'd like us to get rid of Outlaw for someone too, as he's plays stupid and plays no D.

Let me recap some perspectives that my fellow posters point out here:
    - Shawn Marion - a egotistical nutjob
    - Ron Artist - a headcase with declining skills
    - And someone said we shoulda kept Telfair
Do your seriously think these are good suggestions for the Blazers. No, seriously?

I think that we should sign a point guard...someone like andre miller or even trade for kirk heinrich...that would make steve blake back to #2 pg, which I think he is better suited for.  I dont think it would be too wise to go overboard becuz we still gotta sign roy and aldridge to extensions next year.

: )) i havent been on for a while i kind gave u pon figuring out the site lol  im back tho sooo back to the convo i LOVE andre miller coming off the bench becuz i think he is too fast for brandon roy who slows the game down so much which really aggravates me cuz our big guys are running the floor anyway i like his speed missing sergio rudy needs a fast partner to run along with it will make our bench even deeper with more of a scorer then sergio and more energy to the bench which we need cuz our starting line up doesnt have much energy which is why im excited to see martell cuz he is always hyped up anyway ya i want MILLER!!!i would love it!!

Dante Cunningham for back up PF!! He has been the most impressive player in my eyes on the summer league team.  Pendagraph will be good, but he is not as good right now.  So instead of picking up any FA's we should look to give Cunningham or Pendagraph minutes at the back up PF spot.  I think this would be better for the long run.  Not just one championship, but a dynasty.

If we can't acquire Kirk Heinrich via trade we should take a look at Ramon Sessions. He appears to be a true point guard, is unselfish, a decent defender, and may be obtained for a reasonable figure. Of course, he is a restricted free agent and Milwaukie can match the offer. Unfortunately I don't see Jerryd Bayliss ever being a point guard.

It's true PG is first and foremost the most important thing. the more i hear about cunningham the more I like the idea of him backing up LA. So I really think the first guy we should be going after is Ramon Sessions. He Looks extremely good to me. however, i don't see the bucks not re-signing him because he's young and very talented. If we can't get him we should make an offer with david Lee and after getting him, involve him in a trade to get a top tier point guard. Someone like David Lee, Travis Outlaw, Steve Blake for CP3 or Tony Parker or Rajon Rondo or Devin Harris. If we can't get Lee then we should try to trade someone for Hinrich or even Stuckey, but i don't think detroit would get rid of him.

jeez i sure wish we had a true PG.. /cough/SteveBlake/cough/.. stop hating on Blake. He distributes, he can stroke 3 balls when we need him to, he can (usually) knock down free-throws. At this point there aren't really any PG's on the FA or Trading Block that I (as a diehard Zers fan) would want. We dont need to trade any of our nucleus this summer. Develop these guys into stars. Yea but 3 balls still need stroking every once in a while which Blake is good at doing and he is very consistent at the line even though he had a few mishaps last season which someone already alluded to haha, but its ok Steve's still good in my Blazer book
