With all the insnaity that happened today, LA needs to step up and take command of this team and become its Leader on and  off the floor.

    IT IS YOUR TEAM NOW!

LaMarcus - STEP UP AND LEAD

We've seen this before, where the team is somewhat drifting and Aldridge takes it on his back, and it was probably the best stretch of basketball the dude has ever played. Let's hope it happens again, giving him another boost and a view of what he is capable of, so that he'll be even bigger and more consistent (and vocal) by next year.

IT'S ALL YOU, LAMARCUS. SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT.

    GO BLAZERS!

With everything that happened today, I can only imagine what is going through the heads of the younger players. It's definatly a time for LA to step up, and with Joel having his back they can dominate a lot of teams in the paint, which seems to have been foreign territory for the Blazers lately. Let them run their game like the beginning of the season, and not pulling the reigns of isolation offense!

    Plus Batuuuuuuum!!!

Wow, actually thinking about this it doesn't seem too bad, if some of our guys get the feeling that opportunities are open and they step up...

Felton, Mathews, Batum, Aldridge, (trade for a new starting center, using pieces like Flynn, Okur, Babbitt, Thomas)

then off the bench we'd have Przybilla, Crawford, N. Smith, Williams, C.Smith... at least until we see the draft and another trade or pickup, that's not horrible...

I certainly think Flynn is hungrier. Felton wasnt legitimately pushed in practice. This kid is going to blow passed him in tualitin. Anybody who survived Carmelo in college has to be thick skinned. Is he the PGOTF ? Not on the west coast he's not,but we need him to keep Ty Lawson,Steve Nash,Tony Parker,Gorin Dragic,Mike  Conley and a few others honest on "D" when we see them.

I think this topic was well visited on the Batman or Robin thread a while back.  I don't think Lamarcus has the personality to do what you're asking of him.  I think he will put up stats in games we aren't winning until we find a leader somewhere else.  He's a support guy.  Don't hold your breath on the leadership thing.

Last night against OKC is what I am talking about.  LA would not go to the paint hard.  PArt of being a leader is doing things you are not comfortable with.

Last year when Roy was out, LA went to the paint every game and no one could stop him.

LA be a Leader.  Take control of this team.

This is what I am talking about.

Aldridge not accepting six weeks of losing: Blazers captain LaMarcus Aldridge refuses to accept the widely held notion that the Blazers are punting on the rest of the season and gearing up for the NBA draft lottery. After stunning the Chicago Bulls with a 100-89 victory in Canales' first game as coach, the Blazers have lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Milwaukee Bucks by an average of 22.5 points.

Most pundits expect that to be the norm over the final 20 games of the season. But when asked following Wednesday's practice what makes him believe performances like Tuesday night -- when the Blazers lost to the Bucks 116-87 -- will not be the norm, Aldridge said he wouldn't allow it.

"I'm not going to live with it," he said. "Last night, I started talking to guys and yelling a little bit. I'm not going to sit on the bench and just let guys just not play defense (while) I'm trying my best. I'm not going to live with it. I'm going to start calling guys out myself. I started doing it last night. ... I think guys got the message."

Read that same article and was going to link it in here, BlazerManiac. I love that part about Aldridge yelling a bit. It would've been nice if he'd been doing it all season, but I'll settle for doing it with our young guns now and then the entire next season :) That is the next step; Aldridge needs to will this team forward. If he's going to do that, he's gotta get LOUD.

If LA wants to be a true All Star in this league, he annot be Passive even as it is quoted above "it is not his personality".  He needs to make it his persoanlity and be the LEader of this team or the Blazers will never be anything more than a 1st Round Exit Playoff Team.

In order for L.A to shine,we need a legitimate ball handler with the ability to shake people out of their shoes. Particularly attacking the weak side. When we eventually land a real savage handling the rock, with the ability to blow by his defender with either hand, L.A.'s job is going to be easy. I wouldnt want to go getting rid of Flynn too early either. The kid can play. He's quick, and he can handle the ball decently. I also think that we'll probably hear about Thabeet being at a few of the Timbers games. Coincidentally this kid also played soccer before taking up basketball. Something is to be said about the foot coordination of those who played soccer. Steve Nash comes to mind. Maybe im just an optimist. As long as we have and keep L.A. and Batum, i give us a punchers chance. Batum plays spectacularly at the 2 guard,as well as defending opposing teams best point guards. Jaeremy Lamb. Bam ! just like that. If he's there when we pick,i think we should snatch him.

Personality-bias or not, LaMarcus has showns us that he CAN be that guy, he does indeed have it in him. He needs to bring it out more, and on a consistent basis. That is what it means to lead a team, and that is his role here. Not to mention a role that any NBA player would strive to have a chance at.

I have no problem with the cool/calm/collected attitude that Aldridge has, in fact I prefer that to some ego maniac leading our team. But there is no reason at all that the calm, cool surface can't have a raging, tumultuous, do-not-get-in-my-way attitude underneath it. Bring that out, LaMarcus. Every game. Every quarter.

How many times did we see Roy go 16 and 5, at home, and against a quality opponent when healthy and starting?  LA is NOT a leader and, in fact, in recent weeks has become as inconsistent as Nic.  This is legitimate cause for concern.  As I've maintained, Aldridge is a second option, a good second option, but only that and nothing more.  Portland's difficulties in putting points on the board are a direct result of 1) not having a ONE option, and 2) having a poor starting facilitator, esp with regard to finding our second option in places where he can shoot a high percentage.  Again, Aldridge's shoes are far too clean...he hasn't gotten any paint on 'em this season (another reason for concern)

Nobody misses Dre more that LA, though I'm probably a close second.  Portland was NUMBER ONE last season in the entire league in oops, most Dre to LA.  Where is Portland ranked THIS year?  LA is still here...

LA needs a facilitator and a primary option.

ALDRIDGE ALDRIDGE ALDRIDGE must be attacking the hoop attacking the hoop attacking the hoop! It's that big of a deal, if it takes repeating it again and again and again so help me I WILL DO IT!

Seriously, leave the outside jumpshots to the guards, and maybe SPARINGLY for yourself as a way to spread the D and make them guard you close from outside... because the point of that would be so you STOP TAKING JUMPSHOTS and move your shots closer to the basket!!! When we are in a close game, in the 3rd and 4th quarter, there should be no single defense in the NBA that is good enough to keep you more than 4 feet from the basket. If they swarm you and the ball is forced outside, that's why there are other players on the floor, the job of LaMarcus Aldridge is to take the highest percentage shots in the paint.

Take your game to the dayum frickackin RIM!!! TOUGHEN UP LAMARCUS! DO IT NOW!
He is absolutely right.  When Roy was out, he was an animal inside.  So he has it in him, he just needs to unleash the beast within him.  When Roy was out, he was and the leader and no one questioned it.  Watch the games from last year when Roy was out, you knew who was leading the team.

He is the Captain of the team, so play and act like it.
