Trail Blazers Claim JJ Hickson Off Of Waivers-
“We like J.J.'s energy and physicality,” said Acting General Manager Chad Buchanan. “He’s a young, but experienced player who can help our frontline.”
Hickson, 23, averaged 4.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 18.4 minutes in 35 games (nine starts) for the Kings this season.
In a separate move, the team has waived center Mehmet Okur, acquired in a March 15 trade with New Jersey.

    Via Sam Amick of SI.com-
Source says Portland has been awarded forward JJ Hickson from waivers. Golden State misses out.

But, the,  roster is full I thought?

Tall, has some mid-range, big game experience. If true, I like the move.

So, we are holding tryouts for next season and Mr. Hickson got an invite.  I feel like we have landed on the Island of Misfit Toys.  Not totally thrilling, to me, to have another one of those 'maybe he'll take it to the next level with us' guys.

Okur is injured anyway. With 1 month to go in a losing season JJ is a great pick-up for the teams future.

I think Chad is making a personal statement with the offseason GM hire around the corner. Miller said the job was his to lose and he's a man on a mission. I think he'll be a fine GM and is the kind of guy that has the big picture figured out here! So far I'm impressed with the changes and cap room. It's an interesting season to say the least. I'm wondering if Batum is tanking the end game to get out of town because he sure looks deflated out there since the deadline, even before it a bit.

if we can keep Jamal and have jj as well our bench could shape up nicely. even if Jamal leaves and we have a health Elliot we will be fine

I really like this move. I think it will answer a couple of our 2nd unit drop-off issues. I certainly like the idea of having another rotation player to finish the season rather than getting ONLY a pick out of Gerald (albeit a good pick).

I will ONLY accept ONE Utah Jazz once-affiliated player (Sloan doesn't count, he was a coach/person & he was/is awesome!  I know Okur was a big that could shoot 3's/perimeter but he's getting quite old/slow & he gets hurt a lot.  ) & THAT player is OUR Wes THE Tony Stark Mathews! :)  This is a good move(s) IF JJ's back doesn't act up; he's young so even if it does, he shouldn't b out long (speaking of IF we keep him next yr. that is; if he stays cheap enough, we should & this short stretch is a good tryout ;).  This guy's been an under achiever (glimpses have shown occasionally), w/ the Blazers, this might b the perfect opportunity for him to bust out!  Again, "on paper," THIS IS the kind of guy I've been referring 2 in some of my other past comments, a tough young rebounder that can hit the occasional perimeter shot AND CAN pick up the scoring if need b (but most of the time doesn't 2).  Good move Chad AND way to hose GS!  Hahaha!

Love this acquisition.  Worse case?  Can't hurt.  Best case?  Along with EWill, has the biggest upside of any Blazer on the roster.  Loved his game in Cleveland and felt he was their best player following The Decision and LeBinky leaving town.  Finally, a Blazer that knows how to finish around the bucket and a guy with an attacking mentality and swag.  Physically, there is little doubt Hickson is the real deal, however both Sacramento and Cleveland were reluctant to make long-term commitments to the 6'9" forward.  Just wonder if this is the type of environment JJ can grow and develop in, currently as unstable as any in the league.  If he is the player he was in Cleveland, this fan base will quickly fall in love with him.  Welcome JJ!

It can't hurt but we really need short term pain for long term gain.  Lets all use our heads and get two lottery picks this year.

Hickson played really good in his first game with the Blazers. He gives Coach Kaleb more lineup options, and more importantly......bench points! I KNOW, right? How cool is that? (:

I enjoyed watching JJ's debut with the Blazers, I think he has potential. From what I've seen a glimpse of Johnny Flynn, I've liked too. Hasheem Thabeet is a different matter though, he has only played 4 minutes for the Blazers. I understand why he doesn't get much time having Kurt and Joel, but I don't see why they can't put him in for a couple minutes here and there. I Think he would match up well against Ibaka, and I hope that he gets some minutes against OKC. I'm kind of curious about Shawne Williams though, is he a reserve or what. Does anybody know?
