excellent all around game by the blazers!!!

I thought it was awesome that batum drilled the 3 at the buzzer for his triple double, im so sick of that stupid unspoken rule not to shoot the last shot when you're ahead. fans pay to see the whole game, if you dont want to play d to the end you deserve a shot in your face. BATUUUM-SHAKALAKA

    Love me some home cookin'!

Kerry Eggers writes that Portland's home victory last night over San Antonio, was the 13th home opening win in a row for the Blazers...only one shy of Boston's record of 14 ('79-'92).

Lopez looked better last night, and I can't help but wonder if the guy is just trying to identify his role with this team.  Confidence with the ball has been noticeably absent in the first two games, almost playing "hot potato" on the catch.  Last night though was different.  Lopez seemed to gain confidence as the game grew older, even backing down his defender to turn and score off the window.  On several occasions, he filled the lane too, with his hands up and ready for the catch...a sign he WANTED the ball.  A high percentage opportunity was the result each and every time, and the big man cashed in.  Defensively, as many have commented, he has looked serviceable in Portland's first two contests.  Again, I saw improvement here as well last night.  His feet were right and, as a result, he wasn't caught out of position very often, if at all...a lesson for Leonard.  Lopez bothered shots and was a force not recorded on any stat sheet in his team out shooting their opponent, 56%-50...something of a rarity for a Spurs opponent.

Re Batum's buzzer-beating tre...Not mentioned in any of the press I have read, the fact that that was a very low percentage shot, his body language even in taking it didn't indicate he cared much.  If a player chooses to lower their own FG% at the end of a contest by throwing a prayer at the backboard...that is NEVER news and happens all the time.  Nick's just happened to go in.  We all know Batum's personality better than those outside this market.  I agree with stacks...good for Nic.  I did see his buddy Parker say something to him immediately after.  Would love to know what that was.

Great win.  2-1 overall, and batting .500 on the road...a mark that distinguishes good teams from the rest.  Here is to continued success on the road, and an ongoing defense of home court!

REFRESHING...Portland shot 17-19 from the charity stripe, numbers indicative of a team in attack mode and not just settling for jumpers.  The Spurs went only 5-8.

Stotts has shown some creativity in getting his team high percentage looks, while not having a tradional post threat/back-to-the basket big or, a player capable of breaking opposition's defense down with the bounce creating opportunities at the rack for himself or others (save Lillard).  Three times at the start of last nights game, Portland lobbed the ball at the rim for a catch-and-shoot.  Very uncharacteristic.

Great game. The Bench isnt the liability it once was. Balanced scoring. L.A. has it locked on automatic. His jumper was wet all night.
I am a fan of our new roster playing with and for eachother.

Great win! If this is a sign of things to come this season, we're in good shape! When's the last time we played a contender and didn't have to climb out of a hole to win? I can get used to being ahead at halftime.

Really great win. I'm with BDawg! I'm sooooooo happy that we were getting to the free throw line and converting. If you look at the stats, that's where we won the game. Hopefully we can do something similar against Houston. They certainly have a better front court than the Spurs but I think that the effort shown by everyone in a blazer uniform will get us over the line against the Rockets. Lillard is far better than Lin and Beverly and with our better bench, we can afford to let Matthews play extended minutes guarding Harden without compromising our offense or defense when he has to rest. Batum, Wright and Coaver all have the length to bother Harden and Parsons so I think we can force Houston to defer to Howard who will run into Rolo in the lane and LA on the other end. 2 wins at home against Western conference contenders would really be a great way to start.

    Go Blazers!!!!

i was loving nico at the point forward playing pick and roll with lopez. we literally have 4-5 effective pick and roll combos on the court with our starting line up now.

I agree fully. Using the pick n roll with different combinations makes us really dangerous especially against teams which play with 2 traditional big men. And coach Stotts stated during last year that most SF don't really have to defend a ball handler in the pick n roll and that's something we can use to our advantage and create mismatches.

LA and Lillard can run a pick n roll or switch it up and run a pick n pop. Nic gives us that option as well and both Lillard and Batum can also shoot the ball coming off screens. Oh and I nearly forgot about Mo Williams who can also give us that extra scoring option. Would it not also be great if Lillard and Batum would run a pick n roll combination? We see something similar with Lebron n Wade and Lebron and everybody else on the Heat roster. It really gives them an added weapon because of his new and improved outside shot. Something similar really fits well with our players because they are really good shooters and that makes the pick n roll a lethal weapon because teams can't over help and must double team at their own peril.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
