I would trade Rolo for Hickson and his rebounding-stealing, selfish, no-defense-playing butt yesterday.  After only four games, I can honestly say this team would have been MUCH better off with last seasons starters and this seasons bench...which, by the way, was a possibility.  Mistake?  Likely.  Frustrating?  Definitely.

Leonard is barely old enough to lift a beer to his lips legally, so I have alot more patience with him, provided expectations and role remain reasonable, and the team aggressively pursues a QUALITY big man coach FOR him.  He is a HEALTHY 7'er that runs like a deer.  That alone in today's NBA landscape is worth being patient.  Don't blame this young man's slow development for the team's glaring need in the post.  He wasn't drafted to be the answer any time soon.

What!??! Lopez has been a 5X better than Hickson was last year. He is defense hasn't been great but his fundamentals are there, he is a shot blocker, good offensive rebounder, AND I guarantee that every Blazer would rather have Robin Lopez than JJ Hickson.

Leonard has got to go!! Wasting a roster spot, when Robin is gone we have no one to play center. No one to rebound or defend the opposing big men. Joel Freeland was doing a great job but he is hurt.

Leonard is terrible at rebounding and defending!! Those are the things that Centers do! I dont care how athletic, how fast, how good is jumper is, he can't play Center in the NBA

The numbers this team is giving up in the paint lead one to believe there isn't a shot blocker or rim protector wearing scarlet, black, and white.  Lopez is not rebounding either.  No way should Nic Batum be leading the team in rebounds.  That is what is known as a red flag.  The Blazers gave up more than 50 points in the paint to both hapless Phoenix and to Houston last night, in route to being badly out rebounded by the Rockets as well.

That said, the points being given up in the paint have as much to do with matador perimeter defense as interior rim protecting...or lack thereof.

Look at the numbers Hickson averaged with the same four starters Lopez is playing with.  Then, look at LA's rebounding numbers with the rebound-stealing Hickson v playing alongside Lopez.  You may be surprised.  The numbers support my assertion, at least to this point, the team would be better off with Hickson at the 5.  I would love Hickson back at center with the bench support we now have, not the least of which is the new and improved Brit.

If Lopez didnt get into foul trouble and Leonard was worthless than Houston wouldnt have scored 50+points in the paint. Phoenix is actually top 3 team in points in paint this year.

I think as the season progresses we will find Lopez very important to this team. Its only been 4 games, but I like Lopez screens, shot blocking, 7'0 frame over Hickson.

I liked Hickson but I feel Lopez is the better player and will shot it this season

I think if we had kept Hickson, we would have an unhappy all star at PF. LA got what he wanted in Rolo and it's now on him to improve his defense and rebounding. So far, he is scoring really well and at a good rate in terms of his percentage. His free throw conversion leaves plenty to be desired although he is getting there a bit more which is what I had hoped for. Leonard needs to fill out a bit more. I'd gladly trade his athleticism for some more hunger on the boards and know how in the post. Great jumper or not, if he isn't doing the things that a typical Centre should do, then he should be sent to serve time in the D-League. 10 games, refining his skill down there would do him good if he embraces the challenge. I think the same goes for Barton.

Rolo needs time to get used to his new team mates. We weren't great defending against Harden and Beverly so that made things tough for LA and Lopez who had to guard the leagues premier big man. They were great against the spurs so that shows it can work.

Every starter average twice as many rebounds as Lopez. How many times did that happen last year with Hickson. 0 . We still giving up a lot of points in the paint. The problem with Blazers isn't the center position. Its coaching. Get rid of terrible coaches in Portland and things will turn around.

Our record is 4-2...relax. And personally,i dont think we'd have a 4-2 record were Hickson manning the middle. And Freeland has turned into a beast.

Last season, at this stage, Portland was being talked about as possibly having the best starting five in the league.  No one is saying that now.  The team's good fortune to this point has far more to do with an upgraded bench and strength of schedule than does it with Lopez at the pivot.  Aldridge hasn't rebounded as well next to Lopez as he did with Hickson, and JJ certainly had better numbers than Lopez.  I do agree that with Lopez the team has much improved interior defense and rim protection, but just looking at numbers I wouldn't mind seeing last season's starters with this season's bench.  Still early, and I do believe the impact Lopez has will only increase as he acclimates.

The Blazers are getting NO ink from the media this season..zero! Personally, I think this season our starting five is better than last season. We have improved defensively across the board. JJ got numbers and offensively I loved JJ's hustle but he did not play smart basketball. The other 4 starters are benefitting from Lopez in the post. Wes is having a career year as is Nic on the boards and with assists. JJ is now on the bench in Denver...getting about 4pts and 4 rebounds a game and losing.

Last season the paint was like layup warmups for the opposition, this season they're forced to take contested jumpers with the exception of Howard and Cousins who can get what they want anyway.

Lopez was on point tonight!! JJ Hickson numbers without all his brain neutral turnovers. The defense needs a little bit of sharpening up but overall, I'm happy with the contribution that Lopez is making. 5 wins already this season and everybody, but Leonard, is playing for the jersey.

this team just beat a team that is killing it in the paint with their size (pistons). lopez and freeland are turning into a killer duo at the 5, t rob is looking like the flop. i hope freeland will help meyers develop like he did.

freeland crashing the offensive board and going straight up on the defense is making me so happy, his jump shot is just the cherry on top.

batum-lopez pick and roll is only going to continue to develop, and LA's incredibly accurate jumper opens the lane.

barring injury, this team could be competing for home court advantage in the first round. i know it's early but we are number 4 in the west and about to jump to 3 when we get sweet revenge on phoenix! rip city!

Lopez is acclimating. Not a surprise. He is improving with every start. Just wonder where his ceiling is with this core. For the money, and with his current production, he is making a case for himself for best value at the pivot. If not for the flippers for hands that Rolo seems to have, his numbers would be even more impressive.

Lopez showed v Detroit he is a bigger man than I...in more ways than just physical stature.  Don't be surprised if Monroe is fined after the league reviews tape and sees his two deliberate elbows to Robin's neck.  To his credit, Lopez did not react the way I would have.

On a side note, with the win at home last night dismissing the Pistons, Portland is tied for the fourth best record in the league...tied with the team they face NEXT, a team that embarrassed them in the season opener.  Phoenix.

I am fearful the potential Leonard has...the very reason the organization used an 11 spot on him...is being wasted away with every passing day.  I don't see any improvement, though as river states, he hasn't had the opportunity he had last season.  Leonard needs one-on-one attention from a quality big man's coach.  Footwork is everything, and Leonard has two left feet.

I said before that with his length, Leonard is already halfway there to being a decent defender. His real weakness is his total lack of court sense and footwork. If he could be in better positions when on defense, that would immediately improve our team defense.

Maybe he needs a good 10 game stretch in the D-league to build his confidence and work on his weaknesses. His offense is decent enough and if he could consistently knock down that 15-18 foot jumper then he could be used alongside Freeland or T-Rob as part of the second unit. But he MUST improve his defense before he sees more minutes.

Just heard Leonard is not traveling with the team non this four game road trip.  Speculating that he may have been assigned to the D League.

On a side note, Brian Wheeler, radio voice of the Trailblazers did not make the trip as well, reportedly due to illness.  My best to you Wheels, and a speedy recovery.  Wheeler had broadcasted 1,359 consecutive games over the past 16 years.

Tonight Lopez may have the chance to grab 20 boards. Gay and DeRozan haven't been shooting it too efficiently the past two weeks and Toronto isn't a great rebounding team. I think it's important for us to win tonight because that will guarantee that we go atleast .500 on this road trip. We also owe the Raptors a blowout after our last trip up to Canada.

    smart but futile.

the blazers are learning from scenarios like last year, the only difference is we are also winning while learning. this team is showing high IQ and good chemistry. neil and stotts have put together an exciting product, thats for sure.

Neil has certainly made good on his word to improve the team. I think that if we can add one more vet around the all star break just to push us over the line and also help pull Leonard into shape defensively then we can grab the 5th seed and possibly get close enough to challenge for the 4th seed. OKC, San Antonio and the Clips look solid enough to grab the top 3 seeds but beyond them, there are opportunities for us to get ahead.

A good defensive big to back up Freeland and Lopez would make a huge difference. They both play so hard that I'm afraid one of them may miss a few games through injury. What we really need is a veteran big to play a similar role to that which Earl Watson plays and just mentor our younger bigs (LA included) because we will need that if and when adversity hits.

Lopez had done a decent job in his short time.  Still can't hit the boards very well or get a shot anywhere near the basket.  I have no idea at all about Leonard.  You have to be in games to get experience.  They say he wants to practice some more, build up his skills, I don't know how you do that without game time.

I think Lopez is much better than Hickson. Though his rebounding ability Hickson was a bad defender and short for his position. I love Robin's passion and defensive skills. Also 8 points avarage is enough.

I really wonder why coach has given up from Meyers so early. Freeland doing well but Meyers deserves another chance I guess.
