Last nights win over a Phoenix team playing very good basketball at this early juncture, serves as a beautiful example of how much improved this roster is over last season's, providing insightful and undeniable statistical data in support of said claim.  A jump shooting team this is, and when the shots aren't falling, the offense fails...or does it?  Last night, while shooting a dismal 41.7% from the field, the Blazer D held Phoenix to a very uncharacteristic 43%.  Supplementing this defensive effort was some inspiring ball movement, leading to the Blazers besting the Suns 44-42 in points in the paint.  Though Portland failed to capitalize on a large number of point-blank looks, the ball/player movement on display, things noticeably absent last year, led the home team to the charity stripe 23 times to only 13 for Phoenix.  When the jumpers aren't falling, it's time to attack...and attack this Blazer team did, overcoming a very forgettable night from the field.  Additionally, Portland out rebounded Phoenix 51-41, 14-10 on the offensive glass.  All the above ingredients make for a tasty winning recipe.

Why different from last year's squad?  Portland's starters last night played an average of 33.2 minutes, down considerably from last year when Dame led the league in minutes played and there was no bench or depth to speak of.  Portland's bench outscored the Sun's bench 34-32, a feat thought unconscionable last year...led by Thomas Robinson, a player whom I have been personally critical of early on.  After only playing 5 minutes v Detroit, when getting the call from Stotts last night TRob came in and delivered a career performance, scoring 15 and grabbing 8 boards, including a nice throw down triggering the late Portland run and comeback.

The Blazers now pack their bags and head to the road for the next four contests, all of which, on paper at least, appear to be winnable.  At 6-2, the Blazers currently sit SECOND in the west, behind only San Antonio, whom Portland has already beaten this year and FOURTH overall.  My belief is that Mo will give this team some road savy and mental toughness, remembering how many Rose Garden appearances he played the role of Blazer killer.

    Go Blazers!

What an ugly win,but i'll take it. Phoenix punched us in the mouth early and often. I hope that this readies the Blazers for alot of the teams who play a physical brand of ball. This can only make us stronger.

I am a fan of our new roster playing with and for eachother.

Portland does not win this game last season.

LA and Lopez with their 3rd consecutive double-double.

Lopez with a career high 15 rebound.

4-4 for this road trip is not out of the question, but I'd be ok with 2-2.

A bench makes the difference. When LA and Dame are not shooting well and you get a win like this, it shows a lot of character. Loved TRobs contribution. He needs to lose the touch down celebration after he dunks a ball though, get back quicker on defense. Dorrel Wright says he love the road, loves winning against an adverse crowd. His game goes under the radar but he's a great spark and decent defender. Lopez is on a roll. I don't want to lose one road game out of the 4. Build some steam early on. Early season wins are so important to making the playoffs. I think we need a better free throw coach for some reason though. What's Mark Price doing these days?

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
