i know there is alot of talk about the off season moves Neil has made with this team and adding a center and a bench to go along with our good starting unit, throw in a lottery pick and a top 5 pick from last years draft id say we have had a pretty good off season. with injuries, and to many mins last years blazers team just didnt have enough even with a great starting 5 they had no bench to make that next step to the post season, we had a undersized center and 5 rookies i wouldnt expect much outta them either, but for the first half of the season the blazers were surprising alot of people and were actually in the playoff hunt, but too many mins and injuries shattered thoses chances of us making the playoffs . so with that said what makes you think this team couldnt make it ? now Neil told Paul Allen he was gonna get needle movers this off season he didnt get that but got us some good pieces. draft Cj Mcclloum and Allen Crabbe Sign N Trade for Lopez and Robinson then we go out and sign acouple vets in Wright, Watson, Williams . so now that all of our signings are done we look at our 2 year players Lenoard, Barton, Lillard, Claver, Freeland we are gonna need improvement from all of these players . with that i love the blend of young players and vets. so with that said i think this team will not only make the playoffs but i think we are gonna get the 6th seed and ill tell you why .

i think there is only acouple teams in the west who are better then us Clippers, Spurs, Warriors. i know you may not agree but look at it this way.

-Thunder(they have Kevin Durant any team with him your a contender because he is just that good, you can make a argument that he is the best player in the nba. but after him its a question mark you dont know how westbrook is gonna be after his injury hes so quick and uses his legs so much you dont know how good hes goona be. also your unclear on there 3rd option jackson is a Pg and hes gonna need mins, ibaka hasnt shown that he can be the 3 option and Lamb is young you dont know what your gonna get. so i think we can be better then the thunder or just as good .

-Rockets(all i have to say is James Harden, and Dwight Howard two of the best in the nba both in the top 10 . but other then thoses two you dont have a forsure 3rd option lin, parsons, and they have a hole at the 4 , i dont care you cant play Asik and Howard together to long cuz either one of them cant spread the floor or shoot, and i think depth could be a issue, lin didnt look good at all at the end of the season and i think Patrick is gonna take his spot sooner rather then later. also chemristy is gonna be a question.

-Grizzlies(D-Fense and bangers is the name of the game when you play the grizz they have size and alot of toughness with Gasol, and Zbo and they will pound you and Prince and Allen bring D, but this team doesnt have much O w/out Conley and Gasol and Zbo scoring prince isnt the player he once was and Allen cant score no matter what so they rely on there bench to be able to give that scoring punch. good moves to there bench adding miller, franklin, bayless(bring him back) but they dont have much shooting thats gonna hurt. i feel like if you can hit 3s on this team you can win cuz there not gonna score alot as it is.

-Nuggets(Depth is what you think of when you think of this nuggets team Lawson, Mcgee, Gallio, they can go 10, 11 deep on this team and its about scoring points, they dont have a superstar but a host of good players. but this off season hurt them after winning another 50 game season they let there head coach go there best player in Andre, and there GM not to mention Brewer, and Kufus thats a downgrade no matter how you look at it they add Hickson, Foye, Authur, Mzgov(resign) Robinson, but thoses players a good but i dont see them pushing the nuggets to the elite of the West and it hurts that Gallio will probably be out til Dec with his knee inury.

i think we can be better then all thoses teams i just named, all of the games we played against them we lost cuz of lack of depth and we got that plus a center. i think we will finish in the 5-8 range, but keep a eye on Timberwolves, Lakers, Mavs and Pelicans.

    Lillard Matthews, Batum, LA, Lopez

Williams, Watson, McCollum, Barton, Crabbe, Wright, Claver, Robinson, Lenoard, Freeland

thats a playoff team in my eyes i think we will end up with the 6th seed.

    1. Clippers

    2. Spurs

    3.Thunder

    4. Warriors

    5. Rockets

    6. Blazers

    7. Grizzlies

Sixth sounds real good to me. In fact, i said as much a few weeks ago.But in order for that to happen we have to be clicking on all cylinders. We can not afford a single lackluster performance. No one has ever questioned the heart of the Blazers, its our stamina thats been called into question. Of course,a lackluster bench has a way of compelling your starters to buy real estate on the floor. Mo Williams is a starter thats going to come off the bench and that boy is a handful. He is a born competitor and his presence is coming to make lillard a savage. Im twitchin to see a team go small ball against us and we put Dame,Mo,Wesley,Wright and L.A. on the floor. We will shoot your lights out. Oh.... and feel free to put Nic in for Wesley if you wish.

I think people are really underestimating the lakers- they lost great talent (mwp and Howard) but they have a starting 5 than can still make the playoffs- and I think will surprise many people (thank dantoni) thunder, clips, sa, gsw, houstan, lakers, grizz, blazer

I think people are more likely to underestimate the Blazers than the Lakers. I hope we sweep them and sorry, but Steve Nash and Pau Gasol are not what they used to be. It's ok, I'm used to the Blazers going under the radar and the Lakers getting most of the ink in the press.

Tobyus: I agree 6th seed is a bold statement. I have all the faith in our Trail Blazers!

Jamsmasher: I also see what you're saying! Though you can't take away the recognition from the Lakers, you can definitely state that at this point having Kobe Bryant on your team is more than a plague than a gift. I'm feeling this way because even though Kobe is Kobe...he's also human. Which means he's getting old. And with Kobe's aspect of the game (me first you later) I don't think he's gonna be that producing player like he once was. And I think that the era of Kobe in the Lakers just might end shorter than we all expected. Now am I saying this is gonna happen for sure? No. But Kobe isn't gonna reign forever. I definitely see them making the playoffs (5-7 seed)...but I can see them ending a few games short.

Riverman: NEVER UNDERESTIMATE STEVE NASH!!! I know he's getting old, but this point guard only gets better with age. Yeah he may not have the same first step but, guaranteed he's still just as deadly accurate with his shot and passing ability. He might take fewer shots than before, but with his excellent passing, he'll just rack up assist and get points that way. Steve Nash is never over.

This is what I see the playoffs shaping up to be

    2.Clips/Spurs

    3.Thunder

I'll even go one step further...

Should this Blazers roster enjoy health, develop chemistry, and collectively play to their potential they very well might be competing with Houston for the 5th coming down the stretch.  Houston added...but what?  A cancer and a distraction...or a dominant pivot?  Time will tell.  Until then, based on Howard's colorful past, the book on Houston is still out.  Health is huge come post season, and Portland's depth will play an important role with regard to both seeding and playoff fortunes.  Throw in some high character, experienced vets with immeasurable leadership qualities and you have a recipe for success.

@ Mistafab322, I'm w/ u on 6th & I don't believe it is a bold prediction; I honestly feel this IS were we will b/finish (& I'm totally coo w/ dat :)  I originally thought we'd b @ 7th most likely BUT then I heard MO Dub joined us & then I changed my tune to 6th (1 spot may not seem like much but to all of u that know this league, u know where I'm coming from & that 1 spot jump IS HUGE! ;)  Now, the 5th spot IS bold; I love OUR team BUT I don't think our guys r there just yet; the perfect storm has to happen for us to get there & I just don't c that coming this season, the leagues just too tough & we're not good enough to do that just yet.  Next season is another story though; I DO  think we r awesome enough to grab the 3rd or 4th spot then! :)  This yr., we're gonna fight like hell & put a REAL scare into teams; next season, we ARE LEGIT & will b for years to come! :)

ps reg. season records & the playoffs r TOTALLY different; I KNOW that whomever that is that we c in the 1st round, we WILL push them to the limits (HOPEFULLY 1st round upset baby! :D  IF we c the Spurs (we matchup the best v. them but watch out for that Pop guy!) somehow, I LOVE our chances v. them & that is the only team that we will most likely realistically face that I think we can go against & advance for almost certain!  I ACTUALLY think GS IS our toughest competition in the west followed by OKC.  A series v. LAC (we NOW matchup VERY well v. them :) could go either way; I'd rather not face them but @ the same time, I'm not afraid of them & would rather face them then HOU ;)

As it currently stands, we're tied for 1st and undefeated. I'm sure the players and coaches feel they can beat anybody and I'm with them. I hope the starters sit more 4th quarters with a comfortable lead than any other team in the league. At some point, Duncan, Parker and Ginobli have to lose a step. Kobe, Nash and Gasol as well. Westbrook has had injury problems and Golden State is leaning on Curry and Bogut while holding their breath about ankles and elbows. Clippers are deep and relatively healthy. Houston is a problem. We just HAVE to sweep the Suns, Wolves and Lakers. First test is win the division. Golden State and OKC are going to be tough. If the Blazers play defense, don't turn the ball over and control the boards they could win the West. It's possible

Im sure you're aware that GS isnt in our division riverman.I agree that D,t.o.'s and boards will be key to a successful season.I do however see only three guys that would be the catalyst on the defensive end. T-Rob, Lopez and Wesley. Batum showing up every night puts us at the 5 or 6 seed.

    Emphatically, yet respectfully disagree CT.

First rule of defense?  Stop the ball.  Defense starts on ball.  Championship defense often ENDS on ball.  Whomever is defending the rock as it crosses mid-court is a catalyst.  More often than not, that responsibility will be Lillard's.  Denying dribble penetration, staying in front of the ball...cannot be overemphasized.  While Blake was here, our pivots had trouble staying on the floor.  Lillard will be the catalyst.

Looking at defensive numbers can be very tricky based on the numbers Lillard was arguably the teams best defender last season. As his EFG% allowed and PER allowed were at the top of the team, however when you factor in the help factor you can see he got more help from his teammates than any other Blazer defender last year.

If Lillard can improve his defense and stay consistently in front of his man it will help out the entire defensive rotation. I look for him to improve in this area, if a little of Wesley's tenacity rubs off on Lillard and Batum all the better the same with Lopez's toughness on Batum and LA. This team then barring injury would have a realistic shot at playoff success.

cmeese why the shot at aldrige's toughness? my man doesnt back down from anyone, he's shoved chandler, howard, griffin. just because he is calm and collected doesnt mean he's not tough. he's just not an enforcer role like a pryzbilla, or a jeff pendergraph, my hope from day one is that leonard would take on that enforcer swagger, i bet he will.

Lamarcus is Tim Duncan tough. He schooled Chandler and Marc Gasol on the road last season. I never bought that line either stacksfan. Knowing how weak the bench was last season Lamarcus knew he needed to stay on the court and I thought he managed his season very well. In an interview last season he said he didn't want to play the 5 much because of the injury risk and his offense was needed to win games. Lamarcus, Wesley, Nic are all underrated defenders when healthy and when they have help. I'm a huge fan of his game. In my opinion we're damned lucky to have him in Portland.
